We Must Go to War
In this state of tension between two sides of a nation, I question to the South: how can a man who denies freedom to others deserve it themselves? Slavery is a moral, political, and social wrong. How can such a practice exist in a nation that was founded upon the ideal "all men are created equal"? We are all men, and we all live on the same Earth that God gave us, so why should one man be entitled to more or less than another man just because of the color of his skin?
However, as important as the issue of the slavery is, a house divided against itself cannot stand. The preservation of the nation is more important than the wrongdoings of the South.
Unfortunately, the South has already seceded into their own country, the Confederacy, and they are far beyond reasoning with. I would have hoped for a peaceful compromise, but southern troops have already started seizing our forts in the South. I cannot stand by and let the country be destroyed by its own people. We will go to war; there is no choice anymore.
We will fight for honor and justice, and to restore the Union. We will show the Confederates that they cannot throw away our country's ideals and secede, an action which they had no right do, without retaliation. And most importantly, we will fight to prove that America cannot be destroyed by itself, so easily.
And if I can save the Union without freeing any slave, I will do it; and if I can save it by freeing all the slaves, I will do it; and if I can do it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I will do that too. Because, as important as it is to rid the nation of slavery once and for all, there is no hope for this whatsoever if America is destroyed in the process.
